The Home Office has released its latest immigration statistics for the year ending June 2026, and the figures confirm what many international job seekers are already experiencing: the UK sponsorship market has become more challenging.

But that doesn't mean opportunities have disappeared.

📉 What does the latest data show?

There were approximately 235,000 UK work visas granted, including dependants, in the year ending June 2026.

That's:

• 18% fewer than the previous year

• 62% below the peak recorded in the year ending December 2023

The decline has been particularly significant across the main sponsored work routes.

Compared with the December 2023 peak:

📉 Skilled Worker visa grants are down 48%

📉 Health and Care Worker visa grants are down 90%

These figures reflect major changes to the UK's immigration system, particularly within health and social care and the Skilled Worker route.

No.

A licence means the company can sponsor workers. It doesn't necessarily mean they're actively sponsoring candidates today.

Prioritise employers with evidence of actively hiring international workers.

2️⃣ Check whether the JOB can actually be sponsored

Before applying, check the occupation's:

✅ SOC code

✅ Skilled Worker eligibility

✅ RQF skill level

✅ Salary going rate

✅ Applicable salary threshold

3️⃣ Focus on genuine sponsorship opportunities

With fewer Skilled Worker visas being issued than at the market's peak, sending hundreds of generic applications is unlikely to be the best strategy.

Your CV should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience match the employer's requirements.
